Dear delegates, advisors, and Model United Nations enthusiasts,
On behalf of the entire GatorMUN IX Secretariat and staff, it is with great honor and pleasure that I invite you to participate in the ninth annual Gator Model United Nations conference. GatorMUN IX will take place from February 3rd to February 5th, 2012 in the J. Wayne Reitz Union, located on the University of Florida's beautiful campus. Our conference is designed to give delegates the opportunity to learn about significant historical and contemporary international issues. At GatorMUN, delegates develop their abilities in public speaking, collaborating, and formal writing while also creating innovative solutions to challenges presented to them. Throughout the weekend, delegates will have the opportunity to put these skills into action as they confront a wide array of issues. It is up to the delegates to defend the interests of their countries or personas, whether those views are similar to their own or not.
GatorMUN has made leaps and bounds throughout the years, but this is because of how successful GatorMUN has become. The success of our conference has stemmed from the growth we see each year in the number of schools, delegates, and staff who choose to participate. It is our goal to continue expanding while still maintaining the highly interactive environment that our smaller, more intimate committee sizes offer delegates. Our committees this year will include traditional UN bodies and regional blocks, as well as multiple inventive and fast-paced crisis simulations. With 18 diverse committees, all reflecting the broad interests of our staff, GatorMUN is sure to have something that will appeal to the many interests of each delegate attending, regardless of their level of experience.
In order to ensure that all delegates have an outstanding conference experience, each of our well-trained, knowledgeable staff members dedicates countless hours throughout the year to prepare for GatorMUN. Our staff consists of over 70 committed individuals, most of whom compete with the University of Florida's Model United Nations team at the collegiate level. As a staff member, they are required to attend regular meetings in which they focus on parliamentary procedure, run mock committee sessions, and plan out how to introduce crisis scenarios using audio-visual materials or guest speakers. From writing and editing background guides to providing delegates with the tools they need to get on the right track, the Secretariat and staff works all year to make sure the weekend is a memorable experience for all. It is the delegates' dedication and enthusiasm for Model UN and international issues that makes putting this conference together so meaningful and rewarding for the GatorMUN IX staff.
As you decide which conferences your school will be attending throughout the year, feel free to browse our website and please do not hesitate to contact myself or the Secretariat at gatormun@gmail.com with any questions you may have about what GatorMUN can offer you and your delegates. I hope you will join us in February for an educational and truly extraordinary experience!
Sincerely,
Cameron Taylor
