General Assembly First - Disarmament and International Security (Dual Delegation Committee) Director: Pedro Otalora
Welcome to the Disarmament and International Security Committee. This will be a large double-delegation assembly committee. We will cover two topics that are both very complex and relevant in world affairs. With the advent of ISIS and the Syrian civil war, there has been a widely reported female sex trade in the Middle East that has resulted in many horrendous human rights violations and horrific crimes. At the same time, there is a rising number of female fighters within ISIS and other terrorist networks, increasing the recruitment of women and creating a bizarre coexistence with the sex trade. International institutions must find a way to mitigate both the use of female fighters and the female sex trade. On the other side of the world, North Korea and its leader have continued to test ballistic missiles in defiance of UN Security Council sanctions and have threatened to conduct nuclear tests in the Korean Peninsula. Clearly, sanctions have crippled the North Korean economy, but have not hampered its nuclear ambitions. Delegates must come up with innovative ideas in order to prevent North Korea from destabilizing the Greater Asian region.
Topic 1: Relationship between female sex trade and female fighters in the Middle East Topic 2: Responses to North Korean nuclear testing and potential aggression
