En MI Corazón: The Young Lords Party 1969
Director: cristina rodriguez

The year is 1969. Over the past few decades, New York City has opened its doors to waves of immigrants, who have established multicultural communities in the city’s streets. Prime among these are Puerto Ricans, arriving en masse from the Caribbean island and establishing enclaves in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan. Many came chasing notions of the American dream but were met with the harsh realities of urban living: poverty, rampant disease, and worker exploitation. These conditions were only exacerbated by the overt racism and discrimination Puerto Ricans faced on New York City’s streets. Frustrated by mistreatment and radicalized by the bold social activism of the time, a group of young, impassioned Puerto Ricans banded together to found the New York City branch of the Young Lords Party. Their goal? To empower Puerto Ricans to reclaim the rights they have been egregiously denied... through whatever means necessary. This committee begins at the founding of the Young Lords Party, and delegates will step into the shoes of the founders to address the issues threatening their community. Your fight for empowerment will place you at odds with powerful government forces and with each other. Will you heed the call for Puerto Rican liberation?
